Sam Van Fleet is a commercial photographer specializing in architecture, custom interiors and home furnishings. His clients include architects, interior designers, contractors, publishers and retailers throughout North America. Sam is a graduate of the University of Colorado, where he studied art history and anthropology and has a degree in Commercial Photography from nationally recognized Seattle Central Community College. Winner of Best Portfolio for his experimental images of architecture and design, Sam remains on Seattle Central's Technical Advisory Committee and frequently mentors new students.
Sam helps the Pacific Northwest building community to promote their businesses by providing them with photographs of the highest quality. His clients have won numerous awards, including REX, AIA, NKBA, IIDA and ASID Northwest Design awards. He has a reputation for paying special attention to the individual needs of his clients, producing work that captures the uniqueness of each setting. Aided by his state of the art digital imaging system, Sam's photographs are known for their dynamic composition, lush color and beautiful light.
In 1994 Sam realized a lifelong dream of photographing the ancient art and architecture of Asia. From that journey came his award-winning collection of images entitled "Vietnam and Beyond: Images of Mainland Southeast Asia." Selections from the show are on permanent display at Harborview Medical Center's International Medicine Clinic, a facility offering quality health care to Seattle's refugee communities.
Recently, Sam has made several television appearances-- as a photography and lighting specialist on KSTW's home design show "Northwest Spaces" as well as on KCTV's "Yard Talk".
Sam and his wife Sara live on Vashon Island where they are creating an organic garden and wildlife sanctuary out of a restored island homestead. Their property has been featured in numerous articles and magazines, including Pacific Northwest Magazine and Fine Gardening. They regularly teach workshops on gardening for wildlife through Vashon Allied Arts and Vashon Audubon.
